Today, we pause to honor the 13 U.S. soldiers who gave their lives on August 26, 2021, during the Abbey Gate attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

In the final days of the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, these brave men and women were carrying out a mission of compassion - helping evacuate civilians to safety under unimaginable pressure and danger.

A homicide bombing tragically took them from us, but their courage and sacrifice will live on forever.
